Stephen Baker, MD
Dr. Stephen Baker was born in Ann Arbor, Michigan. He spent his early childhood years in the Midwest. When he was still fairly young, he moved to Long Beach, California. Dr. Baker´s dream of becoming a doctor sparked in junior high. He graduated in 1984 from the University of California, Irvine, with a BS in Biological Sciences. In 1988, he completed medical school at George Washington University in Washington, D.C. Dr. Baker then returned to Long Beach, California to complete his Pediatric internship. He spent the following year doing a Pathology residency, from which he gained a wealth of knowledge in laboratory medicine. Dr. Baker completed his Pediatric residency in Grand Rapids, Michigan in 1992.
Dr. Stephen Baker joined the Air Force as a pediatrician. The Air Force took him many places, including Texas, Germany, and Alaska. While stationed at Elmendorf AFB, he and his family fell in love with Alaska. Consequently, he decided to leave the Air Force to work for the Children´s Clinic, where he practiced for over ten years. While working full-time as a civilian Pediatrician, Dr. Baker has continued to serve our country through the Air National Guard and the Air Force Reserves. In the fall of 2007, Dr. Baker was selected to build the first F-22 reserve medical unit from the ground up. By the second year, the unit was awarded the Team Aerospace Medicine Award best in the USAFR. He still continues to serve as medical commander of this unit. In addition, Dr. Baker has also been awarded the Physician of the Year in the Air Force Reserves.
Dr. Baker met his wife, Alicia, while at George Washington University. Now, nearly 25 years later, they are still happily married. They have been blessed with six children; four biological and two adopted. Dr. Baker recently welcomed his first grandchild into the world, and has proudly added the title of Grandpa.
Debbie Hicks, RN, IBCLC, Lactation Consultant
Debbie attended Wesley College in Dover, Delaware, obtaining an Associate degree in 1988 and receiving a Bachelor of Science degree in 1990. Debbie has diverse nursing experience including, nine years of surgical nursing and two years in labor, delivery, and postpartum care. Debbie has been working in pediatrics since 2002. She has been a board certified lactation consultant since 2008. She has two children and breastfed both. She loves to snow machine up at Eureka as well as go fishing and ATVing with her family. She is also very involved in her children´s sports and activities.
